Geo-Comm Inc dba GeoComm, creator and deliverer of locally authoritative indoor and outdoor Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data for mission critical applications, is a Granite Partners company and headquartered in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The company was founded in 1995 by Tom Grones and Dan Rudningen to provide local governments with turnkey emergency 9-1-1 development services, bringing together 9-1-1 communications and GIS. In the early start up days, GeoComm’s big innovation was putting the location of a 9-1-1 call on a map in the 9-1-1 call center. This was a major innovation that infused the company when cell phones began proliferating throughout the country and the FCC mandated that those calls needed to be mapped in front of 9-1-1 call-takers. Today, GeoComm’s public safety systems route emergency calls to the appropriate 9-1-1 call center, map the caller’s location on a call taker or dispatcher map, and guide emergency responders to the scene of the accident on mobile displays within police, fire, and ambulance vehicles. In addition, as agencies across the country transition to a Next Generation 9-1-1 environment, GeoComm, recognizing the importance of consistent and accurate GIS data for accurate 9-1-1 call routing, provides a variety of GIS services and solutions aimed at empowering entities to collaborate, edit, quality control, merge, analyze, and automate packaging and provisioning of GIS data for public safety systems. More recently, GeoComm’s innovative solutions are enhancing emergency response situational awareness by empowering emergency responders with a visual representation of indoor spaces for key buildings in their response areas and by converting raw z-axis position measurements into a dispatchable location. During times of school emergencies, seconds truly do make a difference, and indoor mapping is a critical tool for quick and effective action from first responders and public safety agencies, including state and local law enforcement. Powered with knowledge of the indoors, first responders can more effectively plan, respond, and manage all types of emergencies that occur on school grounds. GeoComm School Safety is a game changer for schools and public safety by nearly instantaneously linking a 9-1-1 call or press of a panic button to designated school personnel and law enforcement onsite or in close proximity, displaying the caller’s location on a detailed indoor map of the school and alerting others to the incident. This digital mapping solution leverages the latest Esri ArcGIS technology to support faster response to school emergencies, providing detailed indoor maps of schools and surrounding grounds, along with critical information needed by school safety authorities, public safety agencies, and first responders for streamlining and reducing response times to emergencies inside schools. In addition, in schools where there are multiple floors, a floor level of the 9-1-1 caller location can be provided. By empowering school safety personnel and local first responders with up-to-the-minute, highly precise and accurate location information and school maps, including indoors, GeoComm School Safety will help save lives of staff and students while minimizing negative outcomes. Over the last 29 years, GeoComm has completed twenty-three statewide projects in nineteen different states and has grown to serve local, regional, statewide, military, and K-12 schools in forty-nine states, helping keep more than 100 million people safe.
